Fotini Poulia is a Greek artist who lives and works in Athens.
In her paintings and drawings Fotini Poulia fuses popular imagery, references to art history, autobiographical data, and found material she retrieves from all sorts of sources to create a highly intriguing, individual visual vocabulary. The precision and technical ability that characterizes her work constitute her a masterful painter who has studied in depth the history of painting, offering the viewer the chance to ponder once again on contemporary questions on what defines “great art”. She utilises the knowledge gained from our cultural past by not hesitating to “follow” the course of the hands of the great masters, as she is aware that this kind of observation does not equate copying, but a way of imitation that bears essentially her own idiosyncratic mark.
